Local Battery Choices Trojan or US Battery?
I have a 48 volt setup, aftermarket motor and controller. The cart also has a small lift. My local choices are Trojan and US Battery. The US Battery is $99 or $109 depending on the run time, and the Trojan is $127.
1. Is that a good price for each brand? 2. From your own personal experience what ones are better? I have read most of the charts online, but im looking for real world experience. The cost is high either way and the Torjan's are not that much more. If they are going to last longer I have no problem spending the extra $$ on them. Thanks! |

Re: Local Battery Choices Trojan or US Battery?
Assuming you're referring to US Battery 8VGC XC2 and Trojan T-875.
You can't go wrong either way, the run times are pretty much the same. The only difference I'd inform you is make sure your charger can fully charge the US Batteries because they have a higher capacity than other brands and not fully charging them can shorten their overall life. A DPI accusense charger is capable of this by simply changing the charge algorithm on the front faceplate of the charger itself. As far as prices go; depends on your location and how far you're willing to drive. Around here (Raleigh, NC area) I go my US Battery red tops for $107 each and Trojan T-875 were going for $109. Of course, some places are higher. That's the best prices I found. Hope this helps, good luck and be sure to check out the proper break in procedure for new golf cart batteries. |

If you're using the factory Club Car charging system, don't get the US Batteries. Get the Trojans. I've cleaned up acid leakage messes more times than I can count on 48 Volt DS cars with US batteries. Seen the same batteries in E-Z-GOs and Club Cars with aftermarket chargers such as the DPI that had no issues.

Re: Local Battery Choices Trojan or US Battery?
The cart I just picked up has US Batteries in it and like David said they leak, I had Trojan T-875 in my last cart for 3 years and not one drop of acid from them. I'm doing a stretch limo and than I'm ready for the batteries to go back in, it will be Trojan T-875.

Again, as David noted, it depends on what you're charging them with. I've yet to see a drop of water from my US Batteries or needed to add water to them. YMMV
