Default Most cost effective way to increase speed of a series DS?

I have a 48v 2003 CC DS with series drive. It is used on North Captiva Island in Florida, which has no paved roads (packed sand, mostly) and is as flat as a table top. Our cart has plenty of torque, but seems like the slowest one on the island: about 12-14 mph. I'd like to add an additional 4-5 mph so that old ladies and tourists' kids don't run us down.

I am considering the Plum Quick Bandit upgrade to our existing motor, which promises a 25% increase in speed and torque. Before springing for this option with its $225 cost plus two-way shipping (probably close to another 100 bucks), I'd like to know if there are more cost-effective ways to increase the cart's speed.

The cart has batteries less than 12 months old. They have very few cycles on them (probably less than 40). The cables look like they are 4 ga. The brakes don't drag and I keep the tires inflated. Everything on the cart is stock, including the suspension, rear end, wheels and tires (Carlisle Links).

Many thanks!

most likely PQ Bandit will be the cheapest way to go . Only other options is a new motor and controller .

Just out of curiosity, how complex are these rebuilds? Are the motors rewound?

That's a good question, like asking for Col. Sanders recipes

I had my series rebuilt. Not by PQ, so it may vary. The armiture gets shortened etc. I was not impressed with the performance increase. I am thinking that a motor change or adding a controller change would have been better.

A different solution is larger tires. I am not sure what size you could get away with without a lift; but it is easier to change wheels than a motor. You don't need torque in the flatlands of FL. Probably not more economical, though. A motor rework for more speed sounds like the most economical answer.

If you're using the cart in Florida where no hills are present, a motor swap may get you what you want. If you're in the hills where you'll need extra torque, the controller may have to be upgraded as well to get the added torque. The Admiral high speed series motor is a popular upgrade for the series carts. People have been very happy with that motor.

I have the plumquick bandit in my 03 ds series cart, mostly flat driving here dirt and paved surfaces. I have had it in the cart for over 6 years and with a fresh battery pack could easily get 20 mph with everything else stock. Upgraded to a little larger tire on 10" rims and get 22mph on flat roads. I think the plumquick would get you where you want to be no problems.
