CC Precedent Help

I've got a 05 CC Precedent. I've had it for 4-5 years and have had no issue. It has 1-2 yr old Trojans in it that seem to work really well.
The issue I have is this: On longer trips (3-4 miles) with a larger load (and it seems like when it is warmer/hot outside) the cart will start to act up. Here is what typically happens. It will first start to "buck" a little, like a gas engine that is "missing". Then it might start cutting out here and there. Occasionally it will beep indicating reverse or runaway condition. Sometimes I have to release and hit the pedal again to make it go. It will get worse at this point and not get better until it has a chance to "cool" off. Battery charge level does not seem to make a difference.
One thing I've noticed is this. Before all this starts to occur, the cart will act like it has no speed limited. Here is how I know. I've got the cart set to run 20mph as it is. At one point I put a speed magnet in it as well. With the speed magnet it basically had no limiter. So going down small hills I was probably hitting 25mph or so. You can tell. The speed magnet ended up breaking (I have no idea why??) so I put a stock magnet in it.
So before my cart starts to act up, it will have no speed limiter a few minutes prior. And of course while it's acting up it also has no speed limiter.
So in my mind two things stick out.. controller is getting hot and funking out or the motor speed sensor is getting hot and doing likewise.
Thoughts?

I'd start with the speed sensor. When the magnet broke it probably broke the sensor. What kind of controller do you have? PS don't get the cheap imitation.

Anybody else have some thoughts? I'm getting ready to dig into this? My friend use to work for CC in GA, he said he thought that there may be a slightly corroded connector that is "warming up" during load, creating more resistance and making the controller flip out.
I'm just confused about the symptoms and how to approach this?
