Lights with Volt reducer wiring quest.
Just so Im sure I have this right and dont burn anything up...I bought a complete lighting system including turn signals, horn, brake switch kit and all harnesses from BU and its a real nice kit with great harnesses and a "voltage reducer" that has only 2 wires. If im correct it looks like all the grounds for all the electrical components get hooked to this reducer and then the reducer gets hooked to the Batt. negative post. So it seems all the positives are being fed 16 volts at the positive power wires and then the reducer gets hooked in line on the negative side just before the battery negative.
AM I RIGHT?? THANKS AGAIN TO ALL FOR THE CONTINUED HELP |

Re: Lights with Volt reducer wiring quest.
What you describe makes no sense electrically. A reducer (or a convertor) needs 2 wires for the input side and 2 wires for the output side. Perhaps you need to supply your own input or output wiring? Can you open up the reducer and check for open terminals?

Re: Lights with Volt reducer wiring quest.
You may have one of the OEM CC reducers. It has a 1 wire coming out of each end ? A silver long rectangular unit?

Re: Lights with Volt reducer wiring quest.
Sounds just like the OEM light kit I just installed on "Ike".. The lights are fed 16VDC fron the positive of battery #5, and the 2-wire reducer is installed in the light kit ground.. One wire from the light kit ground bus, the other to the B- at the controller..

Re: Lights with Volt reducer wiring quest.
I bought one like that and brought it back. It will work. You are to connect it between two 8 volt batteries where you have 16 volts. One wire to the negative. The other wire goes to negative on the 12 volt accessory and the other wire coming out of the accessory goes to the positive on the battery. Make sure you have 16 volts between the two batteries. Your reducer should reduce the voltage down to 12 volts. Hope this makes sense to you. A better one has four wires. Two are input for all 48 volts. The other two gives you 12 volt hot and a ground wire. I connected the hot wire to a fuse block I bought at an auto parts store and the other to a ground terminal. this way you any accessory you want and fuse it. You will have to get a ground from somewhere else for the lights.

Re: Lights with Volt reducer wiring quest.
I stand corrected. That's the dumbest setup I've ever heard. But I guess it makes sense to someone at Club Car. Thanx for the lesson, nelly1052.

Re: Lights with Volt reducer wiring quest.
After reading the posts, and confirming what I thought but seemed too strange to be true..yeah this stupid thing hooks up on the ground side of all the accesories and then to the negative of 16V battery combination. The positive of 16V battery combination gets fed to the power wires for all the accesories....seems a little ***ked up to me but hey....it worked. It came from BU in a complete road package which included all the lights, harnesses, horn, windshield and other stuff....real nice setup, except for this kookamunga voltage reducer.
THANKS AGAIN TO ALL!!! |
