Default Re: How hot should the motor get?

I am currently doing some dyno testing of several motors for temperature trends. Class H motors are supposedly good for up to 150C internal before they start to degrade. I am just measuring casing temp for this process; so I would estimate the internal being maybe 15~20C hotter.

The key factor here is that they are being run within their rated parameters. Two are 3kW and the other two 4kW. Keeping the input voltage/current regulated to maintain these 60min ratings they each tend to hit around 100C case temp after an hour of continuous running at this pace. The surface obviously quite hot and you really don't want to touch it. However this is technically not 'over heating'
