OK, placed both cables on same side of DB solenoid. Removed the resistor coil, unplugged the deutsch speed sensor connection at the motor. The cart did act different by having a little more power in reverse to back up my driveway... not easily but it did finally make it. Again, no problem at all going forward up the driveway. However, a new (best as I can describe) momentary cut in power occurs (feels like someone flipping a light switch) every 3 to 4 seconds at low speed in both directions, not noticeable once rolling at higher speed.

So, I got a slight increase in reverse power bypassing the DB solenoid.

I cannot think of anything that would cause that power drop every 3-4sec, but just to be clear, by "low speed" do you mean steady pedal position like 1/3 of the way down, or while cart is accelerating and not top speed yet?

The amount of current used for acceleration is considerably higher than at top speed.

You should drive the cart for a while and then feel all of the high current cable connections: batteries, solenoid, controller and motor.

If any of them feels much hotter than the others, that could be a source of problem during high current demand.

Unfortunately it is starting to look like a field driver problem in the controller itself.

Power cutout was most noticeable when going forward at about walking speed, felt like someone was on a toggle switch. Mash the peddle in forward and would not feel it at higher speed. When I had it in reverse trying to climb my driveway it would cutout cause I could not gain any speed but the cart was showing a little more torque in reverse. I'm making new power cables today and will report back once I test.

Thanks!

I may be out in left field here, but it sounds to me like you have a v glide that is not making good contact on some of the pads.

Would that be the potentiometer you're calling the v glide?

V glide is the pie shape unit under drivers seat the throttle control.

Ok, we're talking about the same thing. It's called a multi-step potentiometer in my manual and is pie shaped and exactly located where mentioned. Granted, I've only owned this cart for 3 weeks and really don't have much seat time but it's funny the first time I've experienced this cut-out was when I by-passed the DB solenoid. Its a puzzle.

Could be several things, one of the wires on the DB solenoid goes to the controller, the other goes to the motor. If you have enough length on the cable from controller to reach the motor. Just hook it direct to the motor where the other cable is and remove the other cable. This will remove one contact point that could be not contacting good.

Good idea mrgolf, I'm in the process of replacing all the power cables and there is enough length to connect the controller directly to the motor. I understand the reasoning behind the DB solenoid and putting energy back into the battery pack as it was designed to help the golf course but the way I'll be using it primarily for hunting I will not see any drastic negatives buy not using DB. Have other DB owners just removed that feature with their carts will minimal effect?

I had a 99 DS that I removed the DB solenoid to save battery cable length loss of power. Not enough to tell but it is supposed to help. No problem at all with cart. One thing, with the speed sensor unhooked you loose roll away braking. I modified the magnet on the motor and was able to keep roll away braking.
