Club Car DS - How to Control Speed
OK, so I have been trying to educate myself on these machines since I am a newb and I know my 2006 DS had the computer flashed to make the cart go 19 - 20 MPH. This was done by the previous owner. My question is, while my son can handle that speed just fine, I would like to know if there is a way to adjust it without flashing the computer? I saw a post where a guy with an EZ-go installed a rocker switch which slowed the cart down to 8 MPH when engaged. Is this possible with my DS and if so how? Thanks guys!

Off the top of my head, you could tap the speed sensor negative wire with a switch. One way the speed sensor would operate to give you full speed, the other would disable the speed sensor and put the cart in limp mode at 8 mph.
Not 100% sure this would not effect the controller in any other way, but don't think so. Maybe Sergio will chime in. |

Re: Club Car DS - How to Control Speed
Not to hijack the thread but I have a similar question - I also have a 2006 DS. I like the regen braking, but it doesn't seem to kick in until I've reached the max speed going down hill with the pedal floored or my foot is off the pedal completely.
Would the Alltrax XCT allow the regen braking to kick in if I'm going down hill but with the pedal only at half "throttle"? Perhaps that would also address the OP's issue too... |

Would it hurt the cart by traveling in limp mode for possible extended periods? Doesnt somebody manufacture a switch or dial that can be used to change the max speed. That would be cool. |

Re: Club Car DS - How to Control Speed
I would prefer not to disconnect the Speed Sensor or you will loose Regen brake and roll-away brake.
You just need a simple ON/OFF switch and a resistor to limit the maximum throttle. The assumptions here are that you have an DS IQ cart (S/N starts with AQ06) and the OEM Curtis controller. Cut the white wire that goes from the MCOR to the Controller pin #1 near the controller. Solder a 4.3kΩ 5% 1/4w resistor in line with the white wire you just cut (completing the connection on the cut wire). Run a new wire from each side of the resistor to a ON/OFF switch located wherever you want (dash, hidden, etc). When the switch is ON the resistor is shorted so the system works as before (Full Speed). When the switch is OFF, the resistor adds a voltage drop that limits the top end of the Speed. If the speed is still too high, use a higher value resistor to lower the maximum speed. If the speed is now too low, use a lower value resistor to increase the maximum speed. The Precedent Excel Controller has a feature where it limits the downhill speed proportionally to the amount of pedal pressed, that is not available on the IQ carts. I am not sure if Alltrax XCT does that or just uses the Regen on pedal-up mode. |

I agree with Sergio. Limit the speed by limiting the throttle not by disconnecting the speed sensor. You could use a pot instead of a resistor to set the lower speed.

I knew Sergio would know the proper way to do this. come to think of it it seems he has explained this same thing before.
