Charging Question
After searching posts, I didn't find something similar to my 'issue'. I need someone to tell me if this is normal.
When I plug the Powerdrive charger in, it comes on and needle goes to @15amps and will creep downward some. All seems well. But, it doesn't charge very long IMO. After riding yesterday for 1-2 hours (not constant) I plugged in charger last night. Charger ran for @5-10 minutes and cut off. Pack measured 50.1V. I would have thought it would have charged much longer? It has never charged for very long. Does all this seem normal? Batteries 1 month old, so not broke in yet, and the lowest the cart's been run down to is 48.5V since I've had it (daughter drove it several hours and warning light came on). I've not checked water level yet. Is it maybe that the cart is bone stock with fresh batteries that they're not discharging very much? DS Series with OBC |

Re: Charging Question
Your charging system is not working right, riding for 1-2 hours would have required a much longer charging time.
The 50.1v measurement is way too low if was taken within 30 minutes after charging cycle ended, and too low for new batteries after 24 hours rest. |

I could probably sell my Powerdrive to offset the cost. |

Re: Charging Question
I agree with Sergio, charger should have ran longer, especially if the batteries are new. Whether you change the OBC or buy a new charger, that's up to you.

Re: Charging Question
One question. You said batteries were replaced not long ago. Did the main negative battery cable get routed through the hole in the OBC?

I went out after I posted to dig a little deeper. Plugged charger in and relay clicked (it always does this, which is normal I assume). Needle went to 15 amps and ran for @10 seconds then shut off and relay on charger tripped. I unplugged and reset relay. Plugged all back up and it's been charging since 3:30pm. Last I checked the pack it was 53.3V. May have a bad connection in receptacle, IDK? That plug is a booger to get fully seated. Keep in mind, I've only charged the cart a handful of times in the month I've had it and haven't really paid much attention to charger. Just plug it up and walk away. Haven't rode it much because I've been cleaning it, painting, adding LEDs, etc. Now, I'm concerned that it hasn't been fully charging, so I'm not breaking batteries in. So, when I thought it was charged, it was actually sitting for several days not fully charged. Will monitor for the next few cycles to try and narrow down why it's not charging consistently. |
