Default Burnt controller 13 precedent

I burnt my controller up but under warranty there sending me another one. I was thinking to help this not happen again I would cut a hole in the plastic box under the cart and put a 48v fan in there and attach the controller to the box with thermal paste and add a heat sink on the other side in the battery compartment. Any feed back ?

It's a good thought, but you shouldn't have an issue with the factory controller overheating and causing failure. It will only get so hot before it shuts itself down as a method of protection. It won't allow itself to overheat. This is called "Thermal Cutback"

What do you think the large plate that controller is mounted to is? It is a heat sink, a stock controller should not be overheating without good reason or that is not the reason it burnt up. I've got a 500 amp controller mounted in the same location and while I can feel its heat after a heavy run it is no where near burning hot...

That's just going to make it heat up quicker. But still, the safety feature built into the controller is going to shut it down before it overheats. As with anything electronic, controllers fail often for no apparent reason. This is more than likely one of those cases.

Ok gotcha, I was just worried. I was driving at a slow speed for a half hour cruising and stoped to talk and when I went to leave I backed out and heard a pow and we saw what looked like a spark under the cart and I trouble shoot everything and the only thing not working was the controller so it's at club car now

You answered your own question. Driving slow uses a lot more amps than full speed. If that's the kind of driving you normally do yes I would add a fan. Or somehow improve air flow. Or at least monitor the temperature.
