Default How To Wire HD Solenoid

How do I wire this new solenoid? The posts are different and there are no markings on new one. 1st pic is stock. 2nd pic is new one.

Click on the Sticky of wiring diagrams, post #14 is color coded. The solenoid doesn't care which direction the current goes through. The band on the diode needs to be on the small post getting the pos. feed to the coil. The resistor doesn't matter how it's oriented on the large posts.

The easiest way to say this is "Exactly as it was" solenoids for the most part do not care how they are wired when it comes to polarity.

The big leads and the resistor do not care and you can't go wrong.

While the Diode that was on the small post does care when it comes to polarity in that the "banded" end needs to be on the post receiving the + voltage signal; if hooked up backwards it will fry on first try and can cause damage elsewhere too.

Switch out the small wire spade terminals for ring terminals and put one wire on each small stud. Put the a big wire on each big stud.
Put the resistor on top of cable lugs on the big stud and secure with washer and nuts. Install a new 3 amp diode between the small studs be careful to put the stripe end of the diode toward the (+) wire (should be red but test with your meter to be sure).
Your old solenoid had this diode internal.

Thanks, that clears it up. I didn't want to fry anything. I was about to ask about the diode, because I didn't have one on stock controller.

Can I test the cart without the diode, until I get one?
Advance, Autozone is not showing anything (that's all we have here open on Sunday) and I'd like to see if the new solenoid, controller, fnr switch works.

The diode protects the controller switching device and the other switches from arcing. I would not run without it.

Lots of carts run for years without the diode. Go to a cart shop and get one for 48v when you can.
