99 DS Battery Voltage and Speed When Driving
99 DS 48V with Regen/Sepex (whatever its called). This was a golf course special. I've been trying to figure out if my speeds were normal or if it was a little tired. Flat ground is about 15 but small hills in the neighborhood will bring me down to 7-8.
I finally got around to hooking up a LED volt meter on the dash today and battery pack was showing about 51.4v. Running on flat ground I'm staying around 48-49, but even small hills bring me down pretty quickly to 46-47v. Is this normal voltage drop? The battery pack is building back up to 51+ after a mile or two of driving and then sitting for a couple of minutes. Also how low can I let the voltage drop before I need to start looking at heading back to the house? I replaced one battery when I got it and the rest are 2013's. Cables are in fair condition and appear to be about 4 or maybe 6 gauge and everything is stock. Is there a quick and easy (cheap) way to speed this thing up a little and possibly get it climbing hills a little better? It does have the speed limiter on it so at 15 you can feel the motor slowing you down when coasting down hill. I don't want a drag racer, but I would like to be able to pass the little old ladies that walk in the evenings when going up hills. |

Will not help up hills but unhook speed sensor to get more speed.

Your battery readings sound normal for 2013 batteries. The best thing you could do for this cart is convert it to the IQ system. Both the regen 1 and 2 systems were technological stepping stones to the modern IQ system. As mrgolf said, unhooking the speed sensor for now will net a little more speed.

Several people have done it here. It's really just as easy as swapping out the wiring harness. You wouldn't have to change your motor. David at Revolution Golf Cars could get you everything you would need and could elaborate a little more on the subject.

Hmmmmm.......sounds interesting, but I hate to have the cart down for a complete rewire. I'll definitely consider though. Thanks! |
