Default Potential 2008 Precedent Purchase

Hey guys.

I'm new to the cart world and am looking to make a purchase soon. I plan on using this cart for half on-road/half off-road use and at times I may need it to drive to and from a property that is 5 miles away and still have juice to drive around on the property itself for a bit. Off-road terrain will be hilly, but with very little mud and boggy spots.

I have an opportunity to pick up a 2008 Precedent with the 4 12v set-up in stock configuration for $1700 - this includes 2015 batteries. From my research on this forum, it looks as though people much prefer the 6 8v for battery life and ease of adding additional accessories and I'm sure other reasons. I only plan to add a spotlight.

My questions for the more experienced members are:

1) Besides less battery life, what are the other disadvantages of the 4 12v set-up that I should consider?

2) Besides the obvious lift and tire modifications, can this cart be set-up for the conditions I mentioned above?

Thanks so much for you help and advice!

First thing to check...

Check the s/n of the cart. If you're lucky, you "might" be looking at a 2008 1/2. If that should be the case, the battery bucket would be capable of holding (6) 8v batteries (without major modification) giving you the option of either configuration. If not, see sticky below:

Hope this helps...!

After the first two letters of the s/n, the next two numbers will confirm the year of manufacture. Then, the following two numbers (numbers 3 & 4) will indicate the week of manufacture. Anything beyond mid-year, would indicate a 2008 1/2 which would give you this option of battery configuration. I'm sure someone (David-Revolution Cars) could confirm the actual cut-off/changeover date...

Hope this helps...!!!

Thank you for the replies.

So, judging from the serial (PQ0641-XXXXXX) it is a 2006, not an 08.

I'm not afraid to mod the battery tub if I have to, but I would really like to run it the way it is as long as there are no other issues I should be concerned about with using this cart how I intend to use it.

Still open to feedback please!

If it were me, I'd run 'em until they needed replacement, and replace with 8 volt when it becomes apparent they are falling short of the job (you'll know). For the short term (if the batteries are healthy) they should do the job just fine. But if you decide to replace them - then do the mod for longer battery life and greater reserve.

The cart will start to go pretty slow (but not suddenly fail) near the end of your 10 mile turnaround trip when the batteries are nearing end-of-life.

Install a digital voltmeter...that will constantly keep you aware of the SOC (state of charge) of the pack...

The Precedent is a very solid cart. Go for it. Then add a DVM in the dash first thing. Every electric cart should have one. Have fun!

It's from "info@revolutiongolfcars.com"

The email you sent it to was my old one and I don't use it anymore. Basically all the message said was not to buy anything yet, I may be able to get you a better deal on a newer cart. Call me tomorrow 706 836 7210
