What kind of speed should I expect?
So now that I think I identified my controller on my cart. I was wondering what kind of speed (MPH) I should be getting out of my 36V-DS with a 480AMP controller and a GE D379 motor on stock tires. I tested it this weekend and could only reach 12MPH on flat run. I am wondering if I have a bottleneck somewhere or if this what I should be getting. Seems I should be getting a bit more out of this setup but I am new to the whole cart thing.

Re: What kind of speed should I expect?
Do you know how many HP that motor has? 12 mph may be about right, especially for a series cart. I would think that your setup would have a lot of torque (hill climbing power). Does it?

The 480 controls were series.

Here Google is your friend. 12MPH is a bit low.

I agree, 12 does seem low based on those specs. |

Carts set up for golf use run about that speed.

Re: What kind of speed should I expect?
For my job I am in charge of fleet carts at a golf course and they usually run around 15 MPH stock with good batteries from the factory, so that does seem low.

Re: What kind of speed should I expect?
what kind of controller do you have? a stock"480" controller. if i'm not mistaken this is a 200 amp controller. If that is the case you are right were you should be. you can go up to something like a 36v 400 amp, but your limited to your motor output. so yea going to a 48v 400 amp gives you an extra 1.5 hp but alot of replacement parts. At that point i would look into a newer cart, EZ-GO PDS carts come stock at 350 amp, can do a lot just with a programmer, and freedom plug, IMHO

Re: What kind of speed should I expect?
My cart is far from stock its an 88. It was originally a coil system no controller. Any way I believe that my controller is an older Curtis 480amp.
I don't think I'm very from conversion to 48v. But would love to hear opinions. |
