Exclamation code reader not working when plugged into controller

Hello i am trying to trouble shoot a issue,my code reader will not work even when plugged straight into the controller. if anyone has any reasoning i would love the advise. i am trying to get knowledge of these carts and understand how things work so pls be descriptive if possible. thank you

What model controller, vehicle, and handset? If its Curtis refer to J3 connector on page 13 of this manual.

Make sure you have your +12~15V supply and a ground.

it is a 2012 Precedent. controller is a curtis model#1515-5201

the cart moves just fine but slow so i want to change the restrictions on it but cant get handheld reader to turn on at all on the cart

Try plugging it into the controller, and bypass that port under the dash / f/r switch.

I come across quite a few carts that the port is jacked up and no longer works.

I have a the same issue, where when i connect the handheld directly into the controller, it does not read it. The cart has a few issues i need to press the accelerator twice to get the car moving. I plugged in the handheld directly into the controller and it does not read anything. I wonder if the controller is shot..
