Cable upgrade
Hey I just upgraded my 97 CC 48 Volt CC, Battery cables from 6 Ga to 4 Ga.
I also did the + Cable to Solinoid and the - cable to controller. The ? is there are still several large #6 cables going into controlled motor ...etc (Orange, yellow and 2 Blue) , should these be upgraded also. I am assuming the answer is yes. Where do I find the different colors, so far every cable I upgraded is RED. It would be nice for the next guy to be able to tell from the colors and schematic what I have done. |

Re: Cable upgrade
I went to Home Depot and bought a variety pack of colored electrical tape which had five or six colors for under $10.00. I had to buy a seperate brown and purple I think it was but I had the right color for ALL my cables, and then I wrapped it at each end of the cable to use as a color indicator.
This will definately help the next guy or YOU just in case you make a wiring mistake..SH** happens ya know! editing this post---I just went and looked --Home Depot pack had red, yellow, white, blue and green. I seperately had to purchase orange, purple, and brown. |

Re: Cable upgrade
I went to my local Fastenal and bought a package of assorted colors of shrink tubing in the correct size. It had all the colors i needed, did both ends in the correct color, no more confusion.

Re: Cable upgrade
So, when you buy a cable upgrade kit from these suppliers it doesn't include all the necessary cables, just the major ones? I need to upgrade so how are you all doing it? Making your own cables? Buying a complete cable kit if there is one? combo?

Re: Cable upgrade
I made mine from 4 gauge welders cable and copper lugs with proper sized holes, and SOLDERED the lugs onto the cable, and then shrink tubed each end. about $80.00 and about 1/2 days time.
Everything I used was purchased online at a ACE Hardware supplier/wholesaler. I could find the link if you are interested. It was a 50' roll of 4 ga. welding cable for @ $60-$65 and the copper lugs bought in 10 packs were @$5 / pack...super cheap...but nice heavy quality. |
