Default 15 amp circuit breaker gets warm and pops power Drive 1 charger

Club car cart w Power Drive 1 charger- inherited from friend. Brand new batteries 2 months ago.

New heat sink, relay and circuit breaker 2 months ago in the charger.

Everything has been working fine. Now my circuit breaker pops after 10-15 mins when it gets warm.

Bypassed the relay. Same result. So probably not the relay.

Would a heat sink go bad that fast?

Should I try to replace the circuit breaker with a 15 amp inline fuse?

Probably only charged the cart 15 times with the new parts in the charger.

It could be a bad circuit breaker. I would try replacing it.

Are fuses better than the breakers?

Should I try a larger fuse like a 20 Amp?

BTW the batteries all have about 7.5 volts right now.

It is NEVER a good idea to increase the amp rating of the thermal protection. You can try a 15 amp fuse but if the 15 amp breaker is tripping (and if it's not defective) the fuse will blow also.

Is this a 48v cart?

If so, please measure each individual battery voltage, that reading you posted would indicate you are not charging the batteries at all.

Set your meter to 20vdc when measuring individual batteries so you get 2 decimal digits of precision.

In 40 years, I've had 2 weak breakers (one was a GFI).

What else is on that circuit? I have a Mig welder that would trip the breaker. Turned out it only happened when the welder AND the freezer kicked on at the same time. Put the welder on it's own circuit and both are doing fine.

Here, common issue. Plug charger in and let it run till it pops the breaker, when it does, touch the black wires that connect to it (disconnect A/C cord First) and if the wires are too hot to touch, pinch the connector end tight and re test- more than likely that's your issue and is a simple fix.
