New cart owner with a few questions

I got an 89 club car with bad charging and batt life. Charger shuts off after an hour or so and the cart has no power on hills and will kill the battery trying.
The battery's are old and I am replacing. I have thought about the 48v conversion. Can I do this without the high cost? Can I use the set up I have?

This will be used at our lake camper so I just want to be able to use it and not worry about a small hill killing the battery. Thanks.

Re: New cart owner with a few questions

Only my opinion.

The cart is nearly 28 years old, it will be costly to convert to 48 volt, look at the cart as a whole, is it worth investing that kind of money into it? Look at what you could sell it for and what we it would cost to upgrade (probably at least $2,000 for new batteries, charger, controller and the other electrical that would need upgrading, maybe more). Then, is there other repairs/upgrades needed? Would the cart be worth what you have in it when your done?

If not, just replace the batteries and hopefully the charger is still good. This will probably be around a $600 investment.

Ya, I'm not trying to go crazy. Just want it to last longer. I know I'm buying the charger and batteries and replace the solenoid just to do it. I just thought if there was a low cost way for the conversion to 48v since I'm getting batteries I would consider but I'm not spending 2k on a weekend warrior.
