Non deep cycle accessory battery
I'm putting in a 12v battery in the bag well to occasionally run headlights, my radio, charge a cell phone, and run a sprayer a few times a year. I know the right way to do this is to use a 12v deep cycle battery in a battery box charged by a separate charger. I have 2 normal 12v automotive batteries that still have plenty of life left in them. Does anyone see a reason why I shouldn't use these and get the life out of them before getting a proper deep cycle battery?

Re: Non deep cycle accessory battery
No, I don't see any problem. If they run down prematurely.....well, you'll have to shop around for a deep cycle.

You're right, this a more appropriate section for your question. Generally, one thread per question is best but as long as you get the information you need it's all good.

Re: Non deep cycle accessory battery
I've been using a lawn and garden battery for over a year and it works. I will go deep cycle next year though. I've found a smaller version that will work well for this application.

Re: Non deep cycle accessory battery
Keep it charged and it will last a while. Automotive batteries are not designed to be discharged very far at all since that does not happen when driving a car.
