Default V-Glide Adjustment - Does it matter which positions?

Hi all! Ive been trying to figure out why my new-to-me '97 resistor cart is super slow. Opened up the VGlide tonight and discovered that it's a full position out of adjustment.

Positions #1-3 are unused.
Positions #4-7 go to the coils.
Position #8 bypasses the coils.

As it's currently adjusted, at idle, it sits between #1-2, mostly on #2. At wide open throttle, it sits squarely on #7. It never reaches #8.

Rather than risk breaking this very old device or getting the linkage out of whack... Can I just move all the cables down one position. Is there anything special about that top position (beefier?) that makes it necessary for use with the wide open throttle cable?

Thanks in advance!

Well I went ahead and made the adjustment tonight. Pulls MUCH better up the hills now.

Im kinda anxious to her others thoughts on this as well. I did the same thing to mine 6 months ago and it seemed to work great.... however, I did just burn up my 5th speed coil last week. Maybe related, maybe not

Hmm thanks for the feedback. No issues with mine so far but it's only had light use. It'll get some abuse on the trails this weekend, and hopefully hauling a monster buck out of the woods on the flip seat.

Has anyone else moved the cables? Any resulting issues?

Do not move the cables.

The issue with the VGlide as a high amperage switch, aside from the lack of contact pressure, is the surface-to-surface pad alignment.

As the VGlide wiper moves and it barely touches the next pad, virtually all current will flow through that small contact surface due to the difference in resistance between the 2 parallel current paths created.

What makes the last pad special is that is the only pad with a "stop", so You can assure that you have full surface-to-surface contact when the current is at the highest.

If You like to press the pedal down quickly during take off, the best solution is the VGlide by-pass I posted earlier.

That circuit will activate a second solenoid as soon as the wiper barely touches the last pad which will completely by-pass the VGlide from the high current circuit.

The circuit will also not deactivate until the wiper has moved entirely off the last pad and it is making good surface contact with the previous pad.

Been through a few vglides myself , wife and or kids can do real damage if they wont listen to the best way to drive these carts .....OFF or WIDE OPEN PLEASE !......putting around or moping uphill can be bad , (I have HERD of vglides welding mid throttle before but never saw that myself , pretty fried but not stuck ) coils and stock cables take a beating also .....if just YOU drive it , Vglide ok , if its gona be multi user , I would look at converting it to solid state , I'm getting ready to do mine now that I just got it back together (kids hit a tree , bent the hell out of everything and broke steering gear) but I get tired of taking the batteries out to mess with the Vglide so I'm just gona bite the bullet I think , plus I hear the old 36ers run REALLY well this way on 48 volts....

Same here, kids and miles of hills to ride... not a good combo! Really hoping the solid state is worth it in the end
