Anytime you plug and unplug the charger it will run for at least a little while. The charger hanging on 2 amps for a long time might indicate a weak connection somewhere in the pack or possibly a battery that needs some attention. Load test EACH battery individually and CLEAN every connection on the pack real good and re-install. Take them off one at a time, clean it REAL GOOD. Check the water level in each battery and make sure they are full. Before charging fill the cell with water a little above the plates, after the charger shuts off then you can top them off. If you fill them all the way before charging the water/acid will boil out and get all over everything.

I had the same problem and after a draw down test it was found that 2 batteries were bad. Since they are new batteries they were replaced with 2 new ones and the problem is gone.

The hydrometer is an inexpensive and accurate test

I found when I had the problem that the batteries boiled a lot. I just disconnected the charger after what I thought was the right charge time.

Continuing to charge the pack with two weak batteries will hurt the good ones. The charger continues to charge until the whole pack is brought to full charge voltage. This will also tend to boil out the good batteries as they will reach full charge sooner than the two bad ones thus actually over charging the good ones. A temporary work around would be to find two decent used batteries of approximately the same age until you need to replace the whole pack.

I'm sure that works but it is probably not best practice. If your charger doesn't shut off automatically, then there is a problem somewhere. Either in the charger or batteries/connections/cables. Not flaming, just adding my unsolicited .02.
