Default New controller issue

I bought a golf cart about a year ago. Its a 2001 club cars ds 48v. With I bought it the seller told me it had a high speed motor and upgraded controller, other than that it all stock (no lift, stock tires). The golf cart would top out at 23 mph, but when it came to sand or hills forget about it. It appears to have a blue D&D motor not sure which one, and a stock Curtis 250 amp controller. So I'm thinking well I'll get a new controller to solve the low torque issue. So I upgrade all my wires to 2 gage and install a GE 700 amp controller. Now that thats all installed, I go to test drive it (full charge) and the acceleration is awesome. The top end however has suffered tremendously. Speeds up to 15 mph and then slowly creeps to 19 mph. So my question is why did I lose 4 mph? I have the controller amperage all the way up and the acceleration all you way up and the plugging set in the middle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about that controller but it sounds like it's limiting the speed. Many controllers do limit the speed.

I thought the GE 700 amp is only available as a Series controller, do You have a Series cart?

If so, what is the pack voltage at the 15mph cruising speed?

It is the proper controller for my cart. I don't know what the voltage is at 15 mph, but I can check. Drove the cart Monday and it ran 23mph then installed the controller last night and it ran 19. I just cant figure out why it would be slower. If anything I figured it would be maybe a hair faster and gett there quicker.

The throttle signal could be off or over the limit. Does the cart go faster if you let off the gas some?

Ok so voltage @ 15 mph is 44.8 voltage at wot @ 19mph is 42.7 resting voltage is 48.9. The cart does not increase speed when I let off the peddle. And correction on the year its a 2002. Once again I only changed the controller, direct swap. No other changes to the cart from the previous day when it would run 23. This has me completely baffled.

When did You install the 2ga cables, before or at the same time as the new controller?

The pack voltage is low, it could be because:
Improper charging (no cable through OBC or more than one cable from pack negative to controller).
The motor may be using more current than it can effectively convert to torque (try lowering both the acceleration and the max current setting).

I upgraded the wiring a couple weeks ago and it ran fine. The motor was done last night. I'll try lowering the settings.
