v glide very hot and melting....help!!
Ok, I bought a 94 club car 36v for dirt cheap. It has burnt/melted the v glide wiper 3 times now which is why I got it for 400 bucks. It has a new lift kit along with big tires. I ordered the new v glide wiper and it came today problem is I don't want. To burn this one up. Can someone please tell me what the problem could be? All the batteries are good, wiring is good as per diagrams I have looked at, new solenoid. What could be the cause for this? You help is greatly appreciated!

Take the big tires off, this will reduce the excessive amp draw through the V glide.

Re: v glide very hot and melting....help!!
The big tires are definitely causing excess heat to build up. This system simply isn't designed for the increased load that larger tires applies to the electrical system. Roxyflash's suggestion to upgrade to a motor controller is a very wise but costly upgrade. However, if you're serious about your cart you need to look into it. Scottyb can help you put together a conversion kit if you're interested. As for the V-Glide that keeps melting, if you're getting an aftermarket V-Glide you're just throwing your money away. A factory V-Glide switch is far more durable than the aftermarket ones. They have a reputation for meltdowns even with factory sized tires. I've lifted many 36 volt carts and some people have problems with V-glides, other people never have had an issue. It's all according to how you use the cart. Just keep in the back of your mind, that the large tires are a step in the wrong direction when trying to keep the heat down.

Re: v glide very hot and melting....help!!
Thanks for the options guys, the tires are 22x11-10. I only use it on the course, many of my golf buddies have the same lift and tires that I have and they have no issues with heat. If I went with a heavier gauge wiring would that help? It looks like the wires to the v glide are 6 ga. do you think 4 would help? What about the battery cables? I am just asking for other ways other than changing the tires. The motor upgrade is an option but it would be nice to find a cheaper way to go.

Do your buddies have the same drive system as yours.

Re: v glide very hot and melting....help!!
One of them has a 96 36v club car that looks to be the same set up,he has no fancy up grades and it does just fine. The v glide I just purchased is an OEM club car part. The one that burnt up was an after market part, will the OEM make a difference?

Re: v glide very hot and melting....help!!
I understand what your saying mrgolf, but I only use it to golf! We have two holes that are up hill and that seems to be my biggest problem area. Do you think that the OEM v glide will hold up better than the aftermarket ones?
