Default Please help me

I installed a voltage reducer last week from Scotty B. Everything was working fine. Today I was going to change the dash, steering wheel, etc. While I was changing everything, the wire on the back of the ignition that connects to the factory battery warning light, made contact with the back of my headlight switch and POP! Blew the headlight fuse in my fuse box. The wire from the ignition was black and so was the back of the switch, so I figured I fried the headlight switch. I went and purchased a new switch at Radio Shack and when I tried to connect it, nothing happened. My brake lights were still working, the cart would still move and the LED's underneath still worked, so I know it's something with the lights only.

Next, I swapped the wires on the back of the new headlight switch (I didn't know which was power, negative, acc) and POP! This time it blew the in-line fuse on the voltage reducer. I, like an idiot, tried to replace that barrel fuse without disconnecting the negative battery cable and POP! It disfigured the barrel fuse clip on the reducer power line.

Now I disconnected the negative battery cables, put a new barrel fuse in, and when I tried to reconnect the negative wire from the reducer, POP and the barrel fuse is blown again.

Have I fried the voltage reducer? How do I know? Please help me.

Have you tried to test with a multi meter?

Disconnect the 12v output of the voltage reducer. If the fuse still blows you have a bad reducer. Before you replace reducer, if found bad, make sure you don't have a short on the 12v line. Just curious does the cart still run? Does the battery charger still work?

OK, I'm a complete idiot when it comes to electrical stuff. I have a multimeter, but I have no idea how to check this thing.

I have bypassed the entire voltage reducer and the cart moves, the brake lights work and the horn works.

I have no idea if the headlights work since I can't figure out how to connect the new toggle switch I bought with the LED on it. Like I said I'm an idiot with electrical.

I can follow any detailed instructions you guys provide and I'll check everything I need to.

JJANCE, I'm not sure what you mean about the short in the wire. How will I check that?

Thanks for any add'l help.

Cut the reducers 12v output wires, set your meter to dc 20 scale and see if your getting 12 volts. Hold your positive lead to the 12v output +and the negative to the 12v output -Since the reducer is fused I would assume it is ok but that is not always the case. Something is clearly hooked up wrong or is shorting out because it is making contact with another wire

As for your toggle switch, keep it simple. There should only be two connection points on the back of it. One side goes directly to your 12v positive output wire from the reducer. The other side of the toggle switch ties into your combined positives from your headlights and tail lights, as all you are doing is cutting the 12v power to your lights. It would help if you posted a picture of your reducer and if it is labeled what the colored wires are as there are many types of reducers
