Obc vs stand alone charger
I have a 97-48v DS with original charger but was thinking of getting rid of it for an obc. Good or bad idea? I'm just thinking it'll be easier for the wife and family. And in case I go far to a buddy's house I can just plug her in. If so what charger should I look into? I saw the Lester chargers so far. Thx

Re: Obc vs stand alone charger
Lester 2800 is working good for me
It is by far my easiest cart to charge. |

Re: Obc vs stand alone charger
I have also been thinking about an on board charger just bc I take the cart to several places where it would be beneficial for me to charge but don't want to risk getting the dpi wet. Like deer camp. I don't want to lose the the float mode of the dpi though. Scotty, does the Lester obc have float mode and/or did you / can you keep the ability to charge with a dpi when say at home?

Re: Obc vs stand alone charger
The lester 2800 does have a float mode... and I guess you could leave the OEM receptacle in place as well & have the DPI function at home but These chargers are so similar I don't see the need for a second at home charger, except maybe as a back up

I can use the standard charger when home in the garage, or use the onboard on long weekends away from home. The best of both worlds, It's great.... You might want to check out this thread as well.... http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...xperiment.html |

Anything else you guys that have one might say to push guys like bob and me into pulling the trigger? How would y'all rate the install for guys like us? I was able to do a complete remodel of my 90 cc ds to one of scottys kits c74 and didn't have any trouble installing one of his reversing contractors.

1. the sheer size of this unit is impressive. So space is a concern. 2. the space you choose must have adequate ventilation for cooling. 3. the charger has operation status/trouble shooting LEDS that need to be easily seen. Of note is the fact the charger has no ammeter to indicate what phase of charge or if it is even charging - beyond a LED lighted... SO I grabbed a simple charger ammeter and stuck it on the cart so I can (at a glance) know what phase of charging it is in combined with the in dash LED - I love this combo for the convenience and the fun factor of making my own safety interrupter and alarm but, I'm gadget driven Charger pics and dimensions here http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/extre...er-review.html |

Re: Obc vs stand alone charger
I think we did different carts. Mine bolted to the floor in a TXT48.

Re: Obc vs stand alone charger
Not wanting to hijack Bobs post so i'll try to ask some things maybe we both need to know.
Can y'all tell us how water resistant it is? Would it hurt to stop/unplug while in charge phase? Say at camp I may only have 2-3 hours for charge before i need to use the cart again. Would my digital SOC meter also let me know when charging? Mine stays on without key so if above 53v i know the DPI is charging, 52.9-53v I know its in float mode. How does it handle power outage once power comes back on? Is that automatic? How easy is the mode to change? I have interstate batteries. Bob may have another brand. |
