Club Car - 48v - Slow up hills - new batteries
My father has a 1996 club car that is slow up hills.. The batteries were old so he bought new batteries but he still feels it is a lot slower up hills then it was when he got it 5 years ago.
Serial - A9645-541879 We replaced the batteries and the battery cables. I have done some small electronics repair before and know how to use a volt meter etc.. Pictures are attached.. I can certainly provide pictures of anything else. Any testing advice would be appreciated. |

Re: Club Car - 48v - Slow up hills - new batteries
What is the voltage of the new pack when fully charged? I will say this... there is a term "velocitation" which basically means that after you have been going fast for a while, fast no longer seems fast. You may be going the same speed, but it doesnt seem as fast, since you are used to it.

Re: Club Car - 48v - Slow up hills - new batteries
Give it a few charging cycles, takes a few cycles to get the batts "broke in"
"Break in" not a great term but new batts work better after a couple weeks of use & full charge cycles. Air temp° has an effect, better chemical reaction when warmer . ( It is winter, here (AK) many of our non garage vehicles have battery warmers ) Also after going up a hill, flip up the seat & grab the batt wires to check for heat. New cables can have loose crimps & bad spots in the cable wire (I call it the China thing) Nice pics, good install job Only thing I notice (extreme nit picking here) The one long black cable with the 180° bend, that sharp bend could become a hot spot. |

51.7 volts...
We had thought about that(maybe we are not going really that slow) but some of his buddies have similar carts that do much better on the same course. |

What's the throttle system? MCOR? Multi-step V-glide?

Find a gps app for your phone. I have an iPhone and I use checkit. I think it was free. It is pretty accurate. Slow up hills is subjective. Give us some actual speeds. On flat ground and on hills. Let us know what upgrades you have done if any. Bigger tires ect. Also test voltage at full throttle on flat ground and full throttle on hill and post results.

Re: Club Car - 48v - Slow up hills - new batteries
The main high current cables should always go on the battery post first, so you have a lot of surface area contact.
You have created a poor high current connection on the pack positive cable. The same applies on the solenoid and Controller posts if more than one cable/wire are connected there. Edit: Is there another wire on Pack Negative also? (You should only have the main cable there if using the OBC) |
