Default Brake drums drag.

Pulled the brakes, [shoes and drums] off my 81 axle to put on my "new" kawasaki axle, supposed to be from 92 and while the shoes fit without issue, the drums don't. The shoes drag on the inside of the face of the drum. Looks like I need a drum with less "offset" from the axle face. Are newer drums made this way? Thanks.

How about a spacer/washer ?
as long as it's not a 1/2 ", might get you out of a bind.

Thanks, considered both ideas. Measured with my caliper, the shoes only need to be about .125' narrower. Ironically about the thickness of a cut off wheel. Shims behind the drum might work too. I was hoping someone here knew what the original incompatibility issue was. Surely I am not the first to run into this. If I had a supply/stock/stash/ pile, of CC parts to compare with...... but... not yet....

Found the problem. Walked in the shop and the sun was shining right in the axle. One pad on each side was just touching the adjuster when at rest. Enough that it pushed it outward a tiny amount. tiny bit of grinding clearanced that, done. Pads were nearly new and came with the cart. Probably made in china. Thanks again.
