Default 2008.5+ Club Car Precedent 48v voltage reducer/converter mount location options

Good evening everyone!

My neighbors and I have the 2008.5+ Precedent carts with (6) 8v batteries. We're planning out the install for our MadJax 48v->12v DC power converters and fuse bus blocks, but have not decided on a location. Even in the madjax video they don't show where (and how) to mount the reducer on the precedent, they just mention rear frame. I've read dozens of threads, and learned a lot of info, but unfortunately I haven't seen a clear winning location, nor pictures of the mounted converters. We will be primarily running USB chargers, light kits, horns, and undercart lights on the converter.

Here's the options I've gathered so far.
  1. Front, under cowl. This is allegedly where the stock converter would mount, and there are predrilled holes, however only opposing corners line up for the madjax unit. Either we'd trust just 2 bolts holding it on to the cart on opposing corners, or drill new holes which may be challenging in the limited space.
  2. Inside of frame, behind battery bucket. Converter width is larger than the frame, so We'd probably end up making aluminum mounting bracket that would screw into the frame, and the converter into it.
  3. Inside dash, and use a dash cover. Closed, plastic area with less air flow, and we'd like to keep the dash space open if possible.
  4. Inside battery bucket, screwed onto the controller panel. We'd like to keep the converter away from the batteries. Apprehensive about drilling into the controller panel. Already a tight fit in the battery bucket, and this would make working in there even tougher.
  5. Inside battery bucket, screwed onto the front of the battery bucket. Not metal, so heat is a slight concern and we'd like to keep the converter away from the batteries. Already a tight fit in the battery bucket, and this would make working in there even tougher.
  6. Outside battery bucket, between body and battery bucket. Screwed onto the front of the battery bucket. Not metal, so heat is a slight concern and and this would be sandwiched in between 2 pieces of plastic.

Are there any additional options I left out? Are there other pros/cons to be concerned with? Any tips/pictures on using a specific mounting location?

Thank you in advance!

If I had to do mine over I would mount it were a forum contributor named Dannyre mounted his on board charger. He build a shelf right above the motor and mounted it there. Right now I've got it in the glove compartment protected by a dash cover.

Have a link to one? And would it mount in the front with the predrilled holes?

Is this the thread you are referring to? that looks like a very interesting idea. I'm guessing sheet of aluminum isn't cheap though.

I think the location Club Car designed for the Precedent voltage reducer up front is the best:

It provides a good heat sink location and all of the wires you need to wire the reducer are located up front on the 12-pin harness.

Thanks for the reply/info/image. That's #1 on our list so far. But with the madjax converter, the holes don't quit line up, so we only can line up opposite corners. Do you know by chance if there are any aftermarket converters for 48V->12v, 20-30A output, that do line up with the stock holes?

We JUST decided on mounting locations this past week and mounted several of them, and was planning on updating the thread this weekend.

We decided to mount it on the front drivers side area (see pic). We drilled 3 holes (red dots) and bolted it on with washers and locking nuts. We felt it was a balance of ease of installation, good airflow to keep it cool, and wasn't too much in the open to get full of debris.

We mounted our bus block in the front as well, on the inside area of that metal structure that we bolted the voltage reducer on. In fact, we mounted it right behind the area where the stock reducer normally mounts, between it and the front floorboard. We used an existing hole with a bolt with washer and locking nut. It's definitely hidden in there and shouldn't get much debris.

I'll try to post a pic of the voltage reducer mounted this weekend. Let me know if you have other questions.
