Default Are there any Club Car years/models to avoid?

Hello, All.

My wife wants me to buy a used golf cart for us to use around our neighborhood and to take with us on vacation. I've never bought or owned a golf cart so I'm not really sure what I'm looking at.

Some quick googling showed that Club Car seems to be considered a great brand. I'm not sure if there's anything in particular that I need to look out for or any years/models that I should avoid for reliability issues. Any insight would be great.

Whatever I buy I will add the rear seats, a lift kit and nice rims and tires. I don't know if that info would change our recommendations.

Avoid an 81 and the years close to it if you want to mod it. The motor and axle are unique and the ross steering box can be a PITA if it is worn. I ended up buying a rear end and complete steering assembly from a newer cart to bring it up to snuff. Others can tell you about the electrical "years" that are desirable for the controller aspect of it.

Sounds like you need a NEV type cart.
I suggest a Club Car Precedent if the Ezgo TXT48 is not available.
Both late models that are easy to modify for good street speed.

I have a 2002 DS and really like it. Went from stock to picture below.

I would look for 48 volt cart with 6 - 8 volt batteries over older 36 volt systems .

Thanks for the reply. I spent some time looking around for your suggestions.

I recommend a Precedent with six 8 Volt batteries (not four 12 volt) and an IQ (not excel) drive system. The serial number prefix, near the passenger kickboard, is your friend. "PQ" is an example of a popular cart. There are others.

That's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Do you mind if I ask how much you have into it? As I've looked around I notice the prices vary wildly.

I found a 2005 Precedent on my local Craigslist. It appears to be in really good shape. The guy is asking $2950 for it. I'm not sure if that's a fair price or if I should keep looking around. I tried posting a link but I guess you have to be a member for seven days before you're allowed to do that.

I have about $1500 in it. Sahara Tires, vampire rims, jakes 6" lift, a Williamson rear seat, installed new light kit, stainless steering column and a steering wheel. I just picked up a brush guard at Christmas but haven't installed it yet.

I wanted to do it with my son and we really enjoyed doing the change over.

$3k is a little out there for a 2005 precedent, I picked up a stock 2010 for $2k I know I got a good deal but I've seen 2008's going for $1850.00, I would keep looking, Now if it had some new batteries a lift and nice tires and rims and a set of lights, then maybe I would consider it.... I might budge a little on the lights..
