Default What speed upgrades can I do?

I have an 89 DS that is 36v. Cables are good, batteries are likely to be replaced soon with Trojans. Im ignorant in knowing what all can be done with these older carts. Mine has these coils under the seat, what are they for first off and can I do anything to them or the motor etc to pull some more speed out of mine? what can I expect to get from it or can I?

Thank you

You could add two batteries or get 8 volt batteries to make it 48 volt. The coils are for differant speeds. There are better motors but if you go that route be best to upgrade to a motor controller

If I made it 48v what would I have to change to not blow up anything?

The solenoid would be among the first items expected to fail after simply adding another 12V of batteries to a 36V cart. The coil which pulls in the solenoid will be dissipating nearly twice the heat (16/9). Since the motor generates no back EMF at rest, inrush surge on starts will stress (e.g. weld or chew up) solenoid contacts. Releasing the throttle at high speed will provoke the motor to generate more powerful inductive surges, also stressing contacts.

Low speed resistor coils will run hotter, and V-Glide contacts will be stressed. Changing direction without fully releasing the throttle will tear up F/R switch if its micro-switch is sticky.

I've went to 48v. And like the other guy said that solenoid will keep failing.I went back to 36v.
Iam now in the process of putting a 48v. Controller and upgrades.
