1995 club car charging issue
I have 1995 electric club car, with power drive charger. The charger turns off at 48 volts exatcly when using the obc inline with the charger. I have currently bypassed the obc and the charger functions properly, aside from the fact that it doesn't turn off ever and I have to keep monitoring it when plugged in. I would like to be able to fix this problem. Any suggestions? I have already tried resetting the obc by unplugging the negative terminal on the battery and putting the cart in reverse sounding the buzzer and letting it drain down. If anyone has a suggestion I'd really appreciate it.

Replace the OBC or get a new charger that doesn't need the OBC to tell it what to do. Plenty of site sponsors have great options for this.

Re: 1995 club car charging issue
The charger gets as high as 63.8 volts and the batteries are drawing around 4 amps when close to fully charged and the batteries maintain about 52 volts after sitting over night, they are at around 56 when first removing the charger. I plan to use a desulfator when it comes in the mail.

Re: 1995 club car charging issue
The Powerdrive charger cannot operate without the OBC, just adding a timer or unplugging it manually will not provide the proper charging profile.
You need to either replace the OBC or buy a smart charger that does not need an OBC. |

Just read your post (on 65 V charger thread) how the OBC regulates the current on the - Neg lead OBC does more than most know , many bypass it when they have problems. Good stuff to know. (batts are expensive) |

In the golf cart business it is wise to just "do it right, and cry once". Spend the money, do it right and enjoy your golf cart.
On a daily basis I see customers try to save a dollar and waste 500 bucks doing it. |

Re: 1995 club car charging issue
I had the exact same problem with my powerdrive charger. The relay and the breaker were replaced but the problem remained. I gave up on fixing it but I did find a repair kit online that you may want to try. It might save you a few dollars.
