2012 lifted speed

I have a 2012 48v club car with a 6" lift and 14" wheels and 23" tires. I use it for a sporting clays cart. On level ground it will go 17 to 18 mph and 7 to 10 mph on hills. This is with two people in it. Is that a pretty fast speed for the set up I have? What is the easiest way to get a little more torque for the hills?

There are a few things to think about, how old are your batteries, is this with a full charge, as for speed I feel for a stock controller and motor your in the ball park. For a good upgrade in torque would be a Alltrax controller, like the XCT 300.

Speed is easy... Torque is always a little tougher as you really need a better controller for torque... Talk to David Hicks at http://www.revolutiongolfcars.com/ he will set you in the right direction...

Batteries are brand new trojans. They charge up to just inder 52v when fully charged.

Sounds like your batteries are in good shape; keep them that way by keeping the cart plugged into it's charger as much as practical IE when parked plug in...

Your speed and torque is typical of carts with speed code 3 and highly oversized wheels in that they give speed but rob torque.

You can gain more speed one of two ways depending on if your cart is an Excel or IQ to which we need the first few digits of your serial number to tell.
A) An Excel cart can be speed up to 20 MPH with stock tires or approx 22 MPH with big tires by having Speed Code 4 installed by an auth service rep.
B) In IQ cart can be speed up to whatever speed a "speed magnet" will allow the cart to build as it fools the cart into thinking it is going half as fast. This is usually around 20ish with stock tires and 22 to 23 with tall tires...
But neither will help increase your torque at all...

Torque can only be increased by installing a larger controller, cables and solenoid so that more amps can be fed to the motor...

PH is first 2 letters on serial number. So what one do I have?

Looks as I have an Exel. Do only certain dealers change the code? And what is usually approximate cost to do so?

Most golf cart repair shops can change the speed code to 4, around here they charge between $100-$150, guess it depends on the week they are having.

Keep in mind down the road that if SC4 no longer satisfies you that your investment will be for lack of a better term "wasted" as it's not going to give you any more torque and it absolutely limits your top speed... Once you get the taste for speed and torque your going to want a little more and for that you need a bigger controller...

FYI you have a 250 amp controller, I have 500 amp controller and sometimes I wish I had gone with a 700 amp controller...

I can relate. The 72 volt Precedent I built a few years ago is the most fun cart I've ever driven. 600 Amp Alltrax SPM Controller, 6 12v US Batteries, Plum Quick drag racing motor, 6:1 gears, 23" tires..... 57 MPH.. Maybe I need to put a package together.. ha ha... j/k. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I did that.
