Default explain/teach about elec. motor specs and ratings please

I was looking at different electric motor specs. today and have a question about "how is this"....
A blue motor listed on cartszone which I think may be D &D is listed at 16.5 hp, 5780 r.p.m with a speed of 25 on stock wheels.
next example is a GE D380 badboy rated at 5.5 hp., 5700 r.p.m., speed of 25 mph. Both these on 48V systems
How can such a big HP difference have similiar speed results, where will HP difference show??

Also the D392 Raptor motor is listed as a 36V motor, 6.1 HP and speed of 24 mph. can this me used on a 48V system, and what would that speed be about?? Im a little confused by the HP differences and yet still have same rpm's and speed ratings. Where does HP come into play ??

Thanks everyone

Be careful what you buy, the Ratings can be
A. With resistance (allow for cables)
Without resistance ( no cables )
B. with standard Controller
with upgraded controllers
HP increases as the # of amps supplied to it increases.
C. Peak HP ( the ammount allowed for 1 Minute)
Continous HP ( what is allowed/expected for continous use.

So Call and ask the salesman this,
if it is rated at
"peak" or "sustained" performance. Also ask if
line/battery resistance was factored into the calculation.
ASK what the supply amp requirement is to get to their published rating.

I think im getting it now, this is the linkk to one of the "blue" motors I was talking about rated 16.5 hp
http://www.cartszone.com/catalog/cart09/7-2.htm

This was the GE motor "bad boy" I was comparing it too, but only showed 5.5 HP.
http://www.cartszone.com/catalog/cart09/D380.htm

But I see now by your chart they were showing HP ratings under 2 different conditions...RIGHT?

Yep and note the low end torque reduction of 15% on the first post,
And it is probably true also on the second post (just not stated).
You may be able to get the low end torque back by going to even a lerger
controller 700 ?, not sure.
But if this were true and your old motor is good JUST add the bigger controller FIRST
and you may get 25 MPH from old motor.
But torque may not be a concern in Oxford FL, Fort Pierce FL, where I grew up only had
1 hill and it was man made.

My cart right now is still a VGlide and resistor(converted to 48V) that will eventually be upgraded, but right now I just want to get it up and running at a comfortable speed for this area..22-25. Since the VGlide is basically straight shot from battery to motor when full throttle, no controller involved, it gets all the amps it can handle...maybe even too many. But I was not looking to buy..i was just looking and was confused..so I knew where to get the amswers. Im actually dealing with Plum Quick right now but was looking at other options as well.

I also saw posted out here that you can't get more than 500A from 48V setup anyway and a 700A controller is a waste of money running 48V only...do you agree on that as well?

I have never upgraded a controller myself so not sure .
ScottyB , Mike , Tom or Roady89 or someone with experience would be a better comment on this.

I am also interested in upgrading mine just to see what I can get out of my
New PQ motor.
