Default Battery voltage drop & effect of cold temps

Last night it seemed like my cart was more sluggish than normal. Was colder than normal with temps upper 20s.

Voltage off the charger at 52.4, up hills 46, 47+ on flats, back to 51 when stopped.

I know my bandit doesn't like the 23" tires (and plumquick told me the motor would eventually burn up) but just wondering if the motor is loosing torque or if the cold is contributing?

I am going to replace motor with high torque one but wonder if it's going to be sooner rather than later.

What is a normal voltage drop, do motors loose torque, and how is battery performance affected by the cold.

Default Re: Battery voltage drop & effect of cold temps

Welcome to our world. Upper 20s? Good for you! That's what we call early spring. Seriously though, batteries get weaker as they get colder. That's why car/starting batteries have 2 ratings. CA= cranking amps and CCA= cold cranking amps, if memory serves, is at 0 fahrenheit. Golf cart batteries, although not rated the same, get sleepy in the cold too. Using them for a while should warm them up some and restore some of what was lost by the brisk temperatures.
