GE D380 "Bad Boy" Opinions or Experience

Does anyone have or had a GE 380 "Bad Boy" and what type of performance did you get from it?

I have a 2000 CC DS with #4 wire, 480 Amp controller, and heavy duty solenoid. I can run a solid 20 mph with a GE 377 and has great torque, but looking for more speed!!

They show 400,480 and 700 amp controller.


As oxfordlawn has already found out there are sellers out there which will
guarentee speed (not Torque, added speed generally means less torque)
when U buy the motor then upgrade cables and controllers.

Just make sure speeds are not Burst speeds but are sustained speeds
call the seller make sure they will stand behind what they are saying.

Gmor---the lower chart in the attatchment shows the d377 dropping in HP with a 700A controller..is that a typo or is there something strange happening stepping up from 480 to 700A controller on that motor?

This chart was pulled streight from the web and supposidly put together by GE.
The 377 is not the only one which drops with the 700 amp controller.
One can only assume that 700 amps may be a little more than the motor was
designed for ??

I had a 377 and i do believe it was maxed out with the combination that i was feeding it. don't get me wrong the motor was running great, but now looking for more and was thinking about possibly the 380 and according to the chart the 380 would be a good alternative. Just have to see if someone has had some real world feedback on the motor.

I love the D-380!!! But what are your applications? I have a 95CDDS48v, 700amp logisystems, 4g, heavy duty solenoid, f/r,...and a GE D-380. I run a solid 26mph, less than 10degree inclines make no difference, passengers in the back have very little effect on speed, but will heat up the contoller/motor pretty good! The motor does not like slow speeds, but I still run half throttle quite a bit and have not sent the controller into "thermal shutdown"...yet! I do light offroading, some hills, very little mud, and alot of asphalt, the terrain is usually pretty flat. I can say this motor has double the amount of torque than stock, my guess. If you want primarily speed this is your motor! Now, with that said there all kinds of ways to modify from here; more volts, re-gearing, etc. If I had throw away $$, I would buy the "Beast", regear, min. 48volts, 5-700controller and run the same speed or better than the "Bad Boy", and have double it's torque! That would be the ultimate setup, in my amatuer opinion! Hope this helps. BTW, I have run the setups I mentioned, and my approximations are not that far off!

Thank you BRS, just what i was looking for.

I have a 2000 DS 48 with upgraded cables, 480 controller and HD Solenoid. Usage is almost all on paved roads or paths and mostly flat, but with some minor slopes and small hills. My wife drives the cart more than I do and she wants it faster (I love that woman) and able to pull the hills better. The only thing i read in your post that bothers me is the heat, and driving at slower speeds because my wife and 15 yr old daughter don't always hold the pedal down the way that I do. I will think about it some more and look at some options, and thank you once again for your information.

The heat issue bothered me as well, because I knew it going in. However, I have yet to shut her down and it is my understanding that once the controller cools down it will reset itself. My cart is driven wide open maybe 50% of the time, the rest is cruising around the yard. I wouldn't worry about too much.

so BRS--your getting approx. 26 MPH with the 22" tires I see listed in your signature.
