wrong obc for precedent?
I got a 2005 precedent. 1 year ago ( january 2016) I installed 4 new 12 volt trojans. Cart is used for golf twice a week, . Also have a new DPI chrager at the same time the new batteries were installed.
I can just get 18 holes in, but on the 18th or on the way home the yellow battery lite will come on . So i can make it home and charge, and lite goes out, and same thing will happen next time. When the lite does come on, i do notice some power loss that certainly feels like batteries are running out of juice. I am wondering about the obc? There are lots of obc's i see, i was wondering if there is an obc for a cart with 8 volt batteries, that might be installed in my cart that has 12 volt batteries? If that were so, would it make a difference? These 1 year old trojans should be lasting longer than they are. I did a load test and got 83 minutes on the pack, but they are not lasting that long between charges. Cart is plugged into DPI charger when not using? My question is it possible the wrong obc is in the cart and is not completely charging it? Charger turns off, all seems normal, except the run time? |

Re: wrong obc for precedent?
I could be wrong but looking online they don't list a different OBC based on whether you have 4-12v batteries or 6-8v batteries.

Re: wrong obc for precedent?
The OBC needs to be Version 4.0 on the Precedent in order for the Powerdrive Charge to properly charge 6/8's. Version 4.0 will work on both 4/12's and 6/8's, but anything less than 4.0 will not properly charge 6/8's.
OP should be good with the OBC he has as he is running 4/12's. |

With a DPI charger shouldn't the OBC be bypassed?

Re: wrong obc for precedent?
A couple things to say : First when i did the discharge test, i used the big lester unit for 48 volts, and got the 83 minutes. So am wondering if the obc could be not charging the batteries 100%. Becasue the yellow lite comes on now, right at 18 holes. Coarse is not hilly at all, pretty much flat, and close to owners house.
Next, when i look up precedent obc's, I see one for 04-07 precedents, and a different one for 2008 and newer. So since the 2008 precedents i see all have 8 volt batteries, and this cart is 05 with 12 volt batteries, i want to know if the obc that is used on the 08 and newer, is installed in this 05 cart, with 12 volt batteries, is there a possibility that the obc could be short charging the 12 volt batteries? Third, the DPI charger is for a club car with an obc. This DPI is NOT the one made for bypassed carts. ???? Last edited by smokey tennis shoe; 01-28-2017 at 07:22 PM.. Reason: left out a word |

Some 2008 can have 4 12v batteries. See above thread where OBC for 4-12v and 6-8v is discussed. Go see what version OBC you or the cart owner has... |

Here's another thread... 2006 precedent with 4-12v and he says his OBC is verison 2.0. And as stated by Kashmir, 4.0 would work with both setups. Again check what version you have and post it. |

Re: wrong obc for precedent?
Smokey tennis shoe, what's the version of the OBC? It's printed on the pink tag on the front of the obc.

Re: wrong obc for precedent?
Ok, the tag is Yellow, version 5.5 This 05 precedent has 12 volt batteries.
So is the correct obc for my sitch? AND since there are currently 2 versions forsale, is one version for 8 volt batteries only, and one version only for 12 volt batteries? I'm trying to determine if this cart has the wrong obc, and if it does, can the wrong obc undercharge these trojans so that they will barely make 18 holes??? |
