Default Conserving Run Time?

I've been wanting to know if I'm really conserving battery power by running at have throttle on my stock 48 volt DS series cart. I'm talking about just typical light load and on level ground (or would that even matter?).

I've been reading about heat buildup, so I'm naturally concerned about that and want to keep it in check, as well as minimize power consumption when possible.

Anyone?

The heat would depend on the speed control device. If you have a resistor cart, then yes, heat will reach high levels. This isn't as true for controller carts.

Either way, I do not think your gains are noticable, if at all. Keep in mind, once at full speed, you do a lot of coasting. There is almost a guaranteed load on 99% of the time at half throttle.

You must also realize, that though you are using less juice, you are also going less distance due to the slower speed.

Thanks for the info. My buddy-in-the-know told me that since it's an '03, it's not a "resistor" cart.

When manufacturers made the switch to controller the run times increased, not a whole lot but they did. Half throttle will increase overall run time by a little. Not nessessarily increase travel distance. Heat is a by product of energy. If something is heating up then you are waisting electricty in the form of heat. If cables are getting hot then larger 4 guage cables will help. Most of the time when cables get hot its either a bad connection or you are pulling alot of amps.

Oh, cool. (no pun intended :)
Nope, not having any heating issues; just didn't want to start any.

Thanks!

Yep, they did. But looking at the diagrams I found, only the Club Car V-Glide and Regen (regenerative braking) carts had resistors. The '95-03 DS doesn't show to have any.

Why did Club Car run resistors that late? Were they as an economy model or something?
