Default 36 volt charger not stopping at end of charge

1986 36 volt DS. Problem started with batteries being over charged. Purchased new charger and batteries. New charger is still not going to charge completed and continues to charge. Contacted company that charger was purchased from and a new charger was sent. New doing same thing. Any ideas?

Specifically. At what pack voltage are you saying the charger is not shutting off as it should?

The pack voltage will stop climbing at about 42.7. I have used 3 different chargers with all the same results.

42.7 is 2.38 volts per cell (VPC or vpc). This is not high enough to trigger the charger shut off. Likely you have a bad cell or battery that is prohibiting the pack from reaching a total voltage high enough to reach the cut off voltage.

Use a voltmeter to test each battery before the charge and when the pack reaches 42v and post those readings here for analysis. If those numbers do not show a low battery you will be asked to check each battery voltage under the load of the cart's hard acceleration for analysis.

Id ask, what kinda charger? And I would ask what was wrong with the old charger?
New charger and new batteries, then 2 more chargers and its the same. Also what the longest you let the charger run? new batteries can be 12-16 hours before shut off

Thanks Scottyb. Can not do the test you recommended until Saturday the 11th. Cart is a work cart and is used everyday all day. But I will do what you suggested and get back with you. As for what kind of charger, it's a Lester E-series II.
