Losing speed from a stop

I have a 2010 CC Precedent. It has brand new Trojan batteries. It is basically stock with a top speed of 14-15mph. Occasionally when I come to a complete stop and take off again my max speed tops out at 7-8mph. If shut the cart off it runs fine for some random period of time until it does it again. It doesn't have the problem every time I come to a stop, but the problem only occurs after a stop.

There is no hesitation, surging or any other indication of a problem, except for the lack of speed.

I have replaced the speed sensor/magnet even though it tested fine and that didn't help.

Any ideas? Solenoid?

A "main welded", which is a condition caused when the Solenoid contacts remain closed after the controller removes the coil voltage will cause the cart to run at half-speed (same as a speed sensor failure).

Could that be an intermittent problem that becomes (temporarily) resolved when the cart is turned off?

Turning the key OFF should not have any effect, the contacts normally disengage after a while.

You may be able to "tap" on the aluminum heat-sink on the back of the battery compartment, to the driver side of the OBC to see if the vibration causes the Solenoid to disengage.

It is hard to measure the voltage across the solenoid posts because of where it is located.

One thing you can try is to measure the voltage on Motor Terminal A1, if You look at the diagram below, that is where the Solenoid post is connected.

When the pedal is UP, the voltage reading should be a little less than pack voltage due to the pre-charge resistor.

If the voltage is the same as pack voltage (within 0.5v), the solenoid contacts are still closed and You should replace the Solenoid.

Here's a wrinkle...

A friend has the cart right now. He said that he had the same problem when he first got in the cart. While he was coasting he rapidly pressed on the accelerator a couple of times (which I've never tried doing) and that fixed the problem (for now).

Like I mentioned, the key switch was not relevant, it just allowed enough time for the contacts to release by the action of the spring inside the Solenoid.

Pressing the pedal keeps turning the Solenoid ON/OFF and eventually releases the contacts.

If the contacts are already Closed when You press the pedal, the controller will run at half-speed.

If You want to positively confirm or eliminate the Solenoid as the cause, You need to measure the voltage when you are having the problem.

Sergio is right, and it's very possible that a new solenoid will fix your issue, but I thought I'd ask... When you replaced the speed sensor did you install a new OEM sensor or the cheap one off of the internet?

The solenoid has been replaced and the problem appears to have been solved. Thank you for your help.

This is the speed sensor that I installed, from Fat Cat Golf. I still have the original one if this one causes me problems.
