Default Club Car replace OBC with this timer?

2001 DS 48v. Cart stopped charging. Took it to the local place, I halfway trust them! He told me that the OBC was bad and to bring in charger and he would put this timer device on the charger. He said it was better and cheaper than replacing the OBC. He showed me this.....

Is this a good idea? Or should I replace the OBC.

Really bad idea unless you have a ferroresonant charger (big capacitor inside the charger).

Since that device has no way of controlling the current, it cannot possibly provide the proper charging algorithm the batteries need.

You are better off with the old but dependable DPI or a new Lester Summit charger for the latest in technology.

Yep bad idea, the Powerdrive chargers cannot regulate current by themselves, You would end up with a 1 stage "bulk" charger.
