Default 48v to 12v Converter/Reducer

Hello,

Thanks to some of the other fine gentlemen on this forum, (my favorite place on the internet besides GarageJournal) I was told that I should put in a 48v>12v converter.

I have some questions, and some pictures for my current setup:
  1. If I already have lights and a USB charger (see pics) attached, what does this 48>12v converter do for me? Everything I have now was installed by the dealer
  2. If I don't have one in place currently, hom is my stuff not blowing up? IN other words, how is the 48v being regulated currently?
  3. Would THIS be a good choice or representation of what I'm looking for?
  4. Where would I position it?
  5. How would installing it onto my cart affect the existing wiring?

I'm uninformed, not incapable, so I'll gladly take your advice and try to make this work. I do have a multi meter, but honestly that's the limit of my electrical knowledge.

everything is working already because there is already a 16v to 12v reducer on the cart (rectangular silver bar on frame with 2 black wires). They knew that, so they used it for your devices. If you install a 48v to 12, you will need to remove the two black connections from the 16v to 12v reducer on the batteries and one is on the controller B-. After that, you will need to move the corresponding output and input wires from your devices and wire them to the reducer. The 16v to 12v reducer is nice, but it still weakens 2 batteries instead of drawing from the whole pack

OK... and in theory that would weaken those 2 batteries and ultimately limit my whole pack, right? In my pics, where is the 16>12 reducer?

Look slightly above and left of that PlumQuick in your last photo. Should go from that black wire to a terminal insulated from the frame to the reducer.

OK... why is that specific wire insulated from the frame? If I replace the 16>12 converter, would I use this same wire?

All wires are insulated from the frame on electric golf carts. As far as I know.

Ok wizards, chime in.

If you replace the 16 to 12 volt reducer you will start from scratch, so disconnect both black wires from the reducer that is already on the car. on your new 48v to 12v reducer, one wire will go to pack positive, and one will go to pack negative (known as your input wires). your other wires will be output wires, the wires that go from the reducer to the wires on your devices. your new reducer should have specific instructions regarding what color wires goes where etc. You will not use any wires from that old silver bar reducer, you need to run your own with crimp connections and everything else you need

Pack positive and pack negative in makes sense... I'm confused about how I output to these multiple sources (lights, USB charger, cigarette lighter) and how I add accessories later (LED lights, etc)

some people use a fuse block to wire in all their accessories, but what you could also do, assuming the reducer you buy can handle it, is you would need to tie all the positive output wires into the reducer, and also tie each device in with a toggle switch so it can control that device...it starts getting complicated to explain effectively without showing
