Default Regen to to IQ and keep original motor

I have a 97 CC, originally regen 1, OEM converted to regen 2.

My controller is
IC3645SH4D222C1 with 3.2 hp shunt wound motor (model 101854501)

Can I keep my same motor and convert this to IQ? If so, what controller do I need?

Will I need a new harness and/or POT?

Can I eliminate OBC all together and use a "smart" charger?

If you're going to keep the factory motor that's fine, but you need to use a factory controller with it. I don't recommend using an upgraded IQ controller with a factory Regen 1 or 2 motor. You can bypass the OBC circuit within the new IQ wire harness to allow the controller to operate without an OBC, then you can wire the charger receptacle directly to the battery pack and use any smart charger of your choice. You'll definitely need a new harness. The MCOR4 is highly recommended. I can give you all the details if you're interested.

I know the regen carts originally caused lots of headaches. I was thinking the problems were mainly the controllers and not the motors?

Have the newer factory controllers eliminated most of that or If I stay with the regen motor and go with a factory controller, will I still be facing those headaches?

Also, are you saying I need to get a IQ harness even if I go with factory controller?

You are correct. The controllers and the crazy wiring were the devil in the regen cars. You absolutely must get an IQ harness to use an IQ controller. The wiring connector is totally different.

Sorry, I am confused, I thought you said above if I was going to stay with original motor not to use IQ controller?

If I understand correctly, you said if I stay with original motor, stick with a stock controller, if I stay with original motor and stock controller, I do not need IQ harness. Without IQ harness, can I still disable OBC?

Did the newer stock controllers eliminate most of the early regen issues?

No, I said if you're going to use the original motor, you need to use an OEM IQ Controller. I do NOT recommend using an upgraded IQ controller such as an Alltrax XCT or Curtis 1268 with the factory motor. If you're going to get rid of the regen system, you need to get rid of the regen harness and replace it with an IQ harness. You can't use any IQ components unless you use an IQ wire harness. They won't plug into the Regen wire harness. The IQ controllers eliminated every bit of the gremlins found in the Regen 1 and Regen 2 cars, but without an IQ harness, you don't have an IQ car.

To convert your 1997 Regen 1 (OEM Converted to Regen 2) you'll need...

-IQ Harness
-Pivot Rod
-2 Accelerator Blocks
-controller mounting panel
-coil suppression diode
-pre-charge resistor
-tow run switch
-tow run switch mounting bracket
-tow/run switch decal
-mcor 4 conversion kit
-mounting hardware
-7 Zip Ties
-OEM controller & controller cover OR aftermarket IQ controller and upgraded motor and/or wiring (and/or solenoid)
