Water issue, draining from around seat
Well I've had Scottys kit installed a few weeks now with no issues, I mounted the controller on the frame, under the back body slightly behind the seat. Looking straight down with the seat off it appears to be well covered by the rear body.
Well the weather got pretty ruff last night down here. Even with the cart parked under the shed water must have drained from behind the seat straight down to the THROT 1, THROT 2, SOL, and KSI plug ins on my Alltrax. When I took off it didn't have half the power it usually has, that when I noticed the water......sucked it out with a shop vac and it instantly worked perfect! Plugged the Lap Top in, no codes or issues.... Should I make a drain, or some type of Sheild? Thought about using some metal coil to redirect the water.....what about filling the plug ins with silicone? I have to do something cause this is a hunting cart that will enevidately be sitting in the rain sooner or later.... Opinions? I'd rather not move the controller as I fabbed the mounts with angle iron directly above the old resistor plate, which keeps mud/water off it from below. Never thought about water coming from around the seat! ETA.....what about dielectric grease? |

Re: Water issue, draining from around seat
dielectric grease would be a must on this cart
a shield over controller would also be a good idea |

Questions,
Is the location you chose for the new Alltrax the same location where the factory controller was installed? Are we talking about a DS or Precedent? Do you have any pictures you could share? I have a hunting cart build underway so I'm real concerned about moisture and my new Alltrax as well. |

Re: Water issue, draining from around seat
It needs to be protected, but I don't think it's caused any damage. The water was probably weakening the throttle signal into the controller. Once it dried, everything went back to normal. Alltrax SR controllers are basically water resistant, but the wire terminals plugged into them are not. To keep the wiring from getting damaged or corroded, you need to address it now while they're still shiny and new.

Re: Water issue, draining from around seat
Here's what I thought about doing....it's just a piece of coil facia trim, it doesn't have to be this long, but just cut it out to see how it looked. Guess I'd have to screw it or bolt it on, then maybe silicone the lip. Just looking for any other suggestions

Just figured out how to post pics, so added a couple. Here's a pic of the ole meat wagon. Nothing fancy, but got the job done on weak 36 volts , she's pretty impressive on new 48s! image.jpg |

Re: Water issue, draining from around seat
I would just go to Home Depot or an Office store and get a small black plastic trash can.
Cut out a nice flat section, measure and mark, then use a heat gun to heat it up and bend an angle in it. Then mount it with screws or even those plastic push pin fasteners. Cheap, looks good and not another piece of metal around your batteries / electronics... |
