Default New battery

I have been told that you can not replace just one battery in a 6 battery system is this true and why?

You can replace one but it's not a good idea unless the others are relatively new. Batteries in seires should be as well matched as possible. Old ones will drag down a new one and the new one won't last any longer than the others.

OK to replace just one bad battery if the other batts test OK
A good way to get a few more months out of a pack
"milk them thru a season"

Many golf battery shops have used batts , or "re-conditioned"
much cheaper. A good way to go if replacing just one batt.

I guess my question is: Why would you need to replace one battery? If a loose wire burned off a post...there are ways to repair that...if the battery is defective then the age of the battery brings up another direction to go to solve your problem...if it's a general knowledge thing then you probably got your answer...😎

You can have a bad battery in any pack at any given time. Could be a defective battery, etc.
If the rest of the pack is good and fairly young, A new battery may be the best bet. If the pack is a few yrs old, a good used batter may be the ticket.

As always, weather you are dealing with diesel truck batteries or golf cart batteries, if the pack is old, it's best to replace the whole pack when one goes bad.

Keep in mind that these batteries charge and discharge as a pack, which is essentially one big battery. When you charge the cart, the new batteries will charge at a much different rate than old, worn out batteries. They'll also discharge at a different rate than old worn out batteries. If you drive your cart all day and bring it in to charge it, 7-8 hours into a charge cycle the new batteries may be finished charging, but the charger isn't ready to turn off yet because the old batteries are lagging behind and not charging as quickly. What happens in this case is that the new batteries will sit there and continue to deep fry themselves while waiting on the older batteries to catch up. Eventually the great equalizer will be new batteries in equal condition to your old ones, and it won't take long to get to that point if you keep cooking them. If batteries are all of approximately the same age, replace them all as a set or you'll be spending far more money in the long run.
