Charger choices for conversation to 48v
I have a 88 DS that has already been converted to Solid State. Its a 36V system now. The newer motor is rated for 36 or 48 and my batteries are shot. So I am really debating going to 48v. I'm wondering what are my options for chargers since I don't have the IQ.

Yep. DPI. You can change the algorithm for specific brands that insure you are correctly charging your new batteries.

Re: Charger choices for conversation to 48v
Just a side note on changing the algorithm for specific batteries....
I just bought Crown CR 190's and the DPI Manual calls for "Mode 4" for Crown and AGM batteries. To me, AGM batteries and FLA batteries are two completely different animals and I would think they would require different charge algorithms. On the advice of Dave @ Revolution Golf Cars, I set my DPI to Trojan batteries "Mode 2" So far so good, the batteries seem to love it and I have a new pack that read about 51.9 v after 10 hours off the charge. |

Re: Charger choices for conversation to 48v
^^ I'm not sure Crown has had anything official to say about the DPI charger.
I have only seen it in the DPI manual to use Mode 4. Like I said, glass mat batteries and FLA batteries are completely different. After discussing with Dave @ Revolution, I took his advice as he said he has done it with the DPI himself on Crown batteries. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My testing indicates that the Absorption stage output voltage of 58.1 volts from the DPI charger on Mode 4 is exactly what Crown recommends. I don't view this as a coincidence. Crown 20170410.JPG |

Re: Charger choices for conversation to 48v
1sharphook,
I told him to use the Trojan algorithm because the Club Car OBC uses the same algorithm for Trojan and Crown batteries. The OBC is available in two different algorithms, Trojan/Crown and US Battery. I've always done this and it's worked great for me. Always willing to hear a second opinion though. |

Perhaps Dave is part of the H U G E battery conspiracy that folks talk about....
Yeah, that's it....he wants to sell me another set of batteries, so he tells me the wrong way to care for them... Yeah, yeah...I'm starting to catch on to this now! |
