Curtis 1204 Controller
Hey everybody. 1993 Club Car DS, 36v controller cart. Pretty much put together from frame up. Stock motor.
Cart came with Curtis 1204-015 controller. Controller bad. I have a Curtis 1204-410. Research indicates the 410 was for 1995 and later for the same cart. The 410 has only 3 bus terminals and the 015 has a fourth with 2 white wires, one coming from FNR switch, the other going to A2 on the motor. Diagram for the 410 shows only a white between FNR and A2 on motor. Can I install this 1204-410 using only a white wire between FNR and A2? Thanks to all replies! |

I think everything else is pretty much the same.

Re: Curtis 1204 Controller
Can't comment on the 015 vs.410. The 4th lug is for plug braking but is not necessary if the cart is stopped before switching directions. A lot of carts out there without plug braking. The only reason I ordered my controller with it was because I had visions of my grandsons trying to pop a wheelie.

Re: Curtis 1204 Controller
Thanks tag. That's what research said. Of course, to my knowledge, these carts had no "braking" from the controller. Perhaps they did. I thought it had something to do with industrial applications for the same controller that would stop a forklift from running out of control downhill. I suppose I (stupidly) thought from the Curtis Diagrams that "braking" had something to do with slowing the cart going downhill.
What an idiot I am when it comes to terminology sometimes. Thank you. |

Re: Curtis 1204 Controller
As far as I know it has nothing to do with regen. braking. As I understand it, it is a carry-over from forklifts. In my forklift jockey days, we did a lot of speed shifts during the 3 point turns.

Re: Curtis 1204 Controller
Yes. I understand that Tag. And these carts have pure mechanical brakes that are in no way connected to the motor. I thought it may somehow have stopped/reduced motor RPM in certain situations. That was the only conclusion I could come up with.
Stupid? Yes. I associated it with industrial applications for stopping a runaway vehicle, (forklift etc) when it really only means (I think) preventing somebody from slamming F/R rapidly. Is that correct? |

Re: Curtis 1204 Controller
Wire it as the A2 lug isn't there. White FNR to motor A2 (if you have stock colored wires still)
