Default Help with new/used cart

I just got my used cart, and have added all the accessories for the looks. But now that I am driving it, I find I need to put the pedal to the floor, and still do not have the speed. Going up a hill it almost dies.

I have a 2007 club car ds AQ0734-799908

I bought a speed sensor, but got the top hat one before looking underneath.
Wrong one. It looks to be a flat one. What does the speed sensor actually do?

Any other suggestions why I do not have any speed?

I am guessing I have a GE motor?

Thanks
Phil

The speed sensor "tells" the controller how fast to allow the motor to spin (essentially)
What is your speed?
A bad speed sensor usually means no more than 7-10 mph.

You can also check your car frame under the dash to see if there is a speed code update sticker.

I think it should show a series of 3 3 digit numbers if a previous owner has paid for the private code speed upgrade. If that was done you should get about 19 MPH on flat ground. Uphill too many variables, what size tires, battery condition, etc.

Yes, if you have a flat, snap-in sensor you have a GE motor. How old are your batteries?

My batteries are brand new, 48volt. I put new tires on, 10".

I do not think I reach a speed of 7 miles an hour and that is with the pedal to the floor. Uphill is much slower.

The speed in the campground is 5mph, so at least I can't get a ticket.

Thanks
Phil

If I order a new sensor, does the GE motor also have a magnet that I should/can replace? Or isn't this worth it?

I am going to test the speed sensor from the link you gave me, but I do know that when I go down a hill, it does not seem to have an motor braking, if that helps. I also disconnected the reverse beep, since the campground does not allow them.

Thanks again,
Phil

A magnet would help you with top speed, but not torque.
I just put a magnet on my 04 Precedent with a GE motor and picked up 3-4 MPH.

I imagine I would have to get a magnet specifically for a GE motor? And do I get a High Speed magnet?

I priced the speed sensor for a GE motor, and they vary from 90.00 down to about 30.00. Why such a huge spread?

Thanks guys for all the help. I am new and this is my first cart.

Do yourself (and your car) a H U G E favor and get the speed sensor and high speed magnet from a site sponsor. If you get anything off of ebay or Amazon, you are probably getting Chinese junk that will either not work or fail prematurely.
Dave @ Revolution Golf Cars is a site sponsor and a Club Car master.

He can hook you up with a good quality speed sensor and magnet.
