Okay, did the new motor: Now?
I am working on my 97 ds series cart this time. I put in the admiral red motor. I am still running everything stock, right down to cables. I am tinkering with 5 different carts. Not bad for a guy who did not even think he would own a cart 3 years ago. Anyways, what next and why. Is there a big advantage going from 6 to 2 over 4 guage cables? Should I do controller next. Other than heat dispersion, should I expect other performance improvements? I have a DS with 6g cables with the DD speed motor in a 2002 ds with IQ and it flies. the cart I am working on this week is a four seater used in a neighborhood with a couple of mild hills. I get to around 18 mph on flats with everything stock. I guess tha's enough rambling for now.

Put it in a bind and stock components will burn up. That's the reason to go 2 gauge, controller, and HD F/R.

with a stock controller your fine with 6 ga but the minute you up grade the controller you will need bigger cables to pass bigger amps. will you notice more power with bigger cables most likely not but you will notice less heat.

Re: Okay, did the new motor: Now?
So what is being said here is that to get optimal performance I need a new controller, but I will also need to change solenoid, FR switch and, cables to move amperage safely and effectively. If I am looking for this weeks projects am I causing any harm to stock controller by replacing all but controller, or will the controller receive too many amps? I am guessing the controller controls the amperage flow. Just trying to split costs here and have projects I pay for as I go.

Re: Okay, did the new motor: Now?
The controller limits the flow of amperage... the motor is trying to suck 100% of the battery pack down at any given time. The gas pedal tells the controller how much amperage you want the motor to have ... up to it's limit. And it's limit now is making the motor suck a river of amps through a straw
Eventually it will heat up and damage the control. |
