Which is the best model to rebuild?
Sorry if this has been covered before but I can't find it.
If you wanted to start from scratch with a ground-up rebuild of an electric club car which is the best model to look for? This covers things like:
Is it better to find a cheap old cart to just use the frame and put in new motor, controllers etc or is it usually better to get a runner which doesn't need such a complete rebuild? I know these are questions that really can't be answered because they depend on the conditions of individual carts but, hypothetically, if you wanted to buy a cart to rebuild what model would you start with and why? |

I like 2002 and newer DS carts or Precedents with 6 batteries. I have now owned both, for off-road use I would stick with DS, without a doubt has a more solid frame.

Re: Which is the best model to rebuild?
The first few years when the DS changed to 48v were good solid carts with a straight series system that could be built for speed or torque depending on your end needs. For me speed was what I wanted...upgraded cables, H.D. Trojan batteries, high speed rear-end gears and I got over 25mph without changing controllers or motor.😎

Re: Which is the best model to rebuild?
you can go back to an 86 DS if you plan to upgrade the whole drive system. 86+ has the good steering and a strong Kawasaki rear diff. Also those years had a solid fiberglass body, [not sure what year they went to plastic], that is easily repaired or modified, and takes paint well.
