Clean Rusted Lugs/Terminal Post from Underside of Cart
What is the recommended way to clean rusted terminal posts from the underside of the cart?
I'll go into the details of the problem I'm facing. I have 2004 Club Car Villager 4, 48V, IQ System (Serial Number FQ0419-xxxxx). The cart wouldn't move when the accelerator was pressed. The ground terminal block that is mounted between the solenoid and controller was rusty. I took the the lugs off and hit the lugs/nuts/locking washers/terminal block with sandpaper. Now the cart would spin it's wheels while it's backend was jacked up but when I put it on the ground, the cart backed up about 6 feet and stopped responding to both forward and reverse. I could hear the MCOR click but nothing else when pressing the accelerator. I charged it up for a few hours with no change. Next I repeated the taking lugs off and sanding for the solenoid. Now the cart could be driven. Both the terminal block and solenoid are exposed to the underside of the cart. I'm wonder the best way to fix this so I won't have the same problem shortly. I'm wondering if there is a good way to clean the terminals and something I can put on them after they are cleaned to keep them from rusting again. I know there is cleaners for battery corrosion. I'm debating if I should replace the ground terminal block, lugs, and nuts. I don't want to replace the solenoid since it is expensive and still works but I have thought about replacing the nuts and hitting the threads with a die. I'm assuming I could put the same anti-corrosion grease that goes on battery terminals on the block terminal and solenoid terminals. |
