Changing cart speed
I know this topic has been covered in various threads but I don't see where all the information is in one place. Please point me to that place if it exists already (or make it a sticky).
What are the various methods of changing speed? For example I often see reference to code 4 being the fastest setting with standard components. Does that mean there is a Code 1, 2 and 3 with code 1 being the setting from the factory? If you want more than that what are the next steps in order e.g. speed magnets, changing magnets, changing controllers, changing motors etc. It would be nice to have all this information in one place so that people know what can be done and therefore decide how far they want to go and what the steps are to get there. |

Re: Changing cart speed
Well that's fine for your cart that it's available but for a series cart. You can't do that stuff

Changing cart speed
I knew what you meant but there are so many ways to increase speed in the various carts . It would be a long list. But if they make a sticky it would decrease our ability to talk about it as much since everyone asks it. Even me

Re: Changing cart speed
Speed magnet works for the IQ models only. Series carts you will have to upgrade equipment; motor, controller etc. Excel carts you will have to see a Club Car dealer and pay for the speed code 4 upgrade.

Re: Changing cart speed
I don't think a list would work due to the huge price differences and torque needs. Your best bet is to research a few common setups or ask related to budget and goals. Many people live in hilly terrain and require big torque.
Here is what I personally did. Costs are speed upgrades only no labor Cart 1- 1-Speed magnet on 23" tires got me to 19ish w horrible torque $30 Step 2-upgraded battery cables and added plumquik bandit, got me 26 and ok torque for flat ground but took a while to get full speed and 4 passengers killed speed. $400 Cart 2 Everything in my signature (motor/controller/needed components got me amazing torque (for flat ground) highest speed is 34.7 :cost around 1500 parts only. Your very best bet is to email or call Dave at revolution cars and tell him your budget and goals and he will help you out tremendously. |

Re: Changing cart speed
The problem is, so many brands and combinations etc plus not every setup works on every system of carts. If an easy way was possible the sticky would be created.

Re: Changing cart speed
OK I'll simplify it (and I'm talking about the Sepex cart)
Are there Codes 1,2,3 & 4 with code 1 being the factory standard? How are they changed? Is it a software change made by plugging a programmer into the maintenance port on the underside of the dash? How do the magnets work? |

Re: Changing cart speed
Yes, most of the time they are set to code 2 or 3 10-15 mph. You have to have a programmer to change the codes, you need a dealer to get the numbers for code 4 from club car. If your cart is set to code 2 or better you can use a speed magnet to get all the speed your motor has the power to give you. To go any faster you need more power, = amps you get that from controller upgrade and bigger cables to carry those amps. Hope this helps you.
Magnet counts the rotations of the motor, if controller says motor can turn 3000 rpm, ( per speed code) what ever, the high speed magnet tricks the controller by only counting half those rpm s. |
